National Awareness-Raising Program on Sustainability of Fish Wealth, IUU and Ghost Fishing Gears (GFGs) 23-24 November 2025, Sudan
PERSGA held an awareness-raising Program in coordination with the national focal point (Higher Council for Environment and Natural Resources) for two days (23-24 November 2025) at two main coastal areas (Port Sudan and Sawakin). The main objective of this program was to raise the awareness level of local fishers on sustainability of fish wealth and impacts of Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) and Ghost Fishing Geras (GFGs). About 60 fishers participated at this program. Nine Women -from a Fishery-related Non-governmental Organization (NGO)- also attended the program. Different presentations, in relation to GFGs and Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) were provided to the local fishers in each area. There were open dialogue sessions with the local fishers -within the program- to discuss different issues in relation to current fishery management in the coastal areas.
