Djibouti’s National Communication Workshop on the Regional Project on Sustainable Fishery Development in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden (SFISH): 12-13 November 2023
PERSGA organized a National Communication Workshop on the SFISH project in collaboration with the National Focal Point (Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development), during 12-13 November 2023 in Djibouti, Republic of Djibouti. The main objectives of this workshop were to: 1. raise the level of the awareness of different stakeholders on the Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing and; 2. to enhance their engagement in combating IUU fishing, protection of fish spawning aggregations/sites and reduction/avoidance of fishery by-catch in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden region.
Fifty participants attended this workshop. They were affiliated to different governmental and no-governmental sectors, including Ministry of Fish, Ministry Of Transport, Sea Port Authority. The first day of the workshop was targeted for stakeholders from government sectors, while the second day was for non-governmental sectors. In addition, some fishermen attended this workshop. Nearly third of the participants were fishermen and persons affiliated to fishery associates. At the end of the workshop, participants suggested and recommends some main points to improve management of IUU fishing within the framework of the SFISH Project
