Egypt ’s National Communication Workshop (20-21 November 2023)

PERSGA organized a National Communication Workshop on the SFISH project in collaboration with the National Focal Point (Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEPA)), during 20-21 November 2023, in Hurghada, Egypt.  The main objectives of this workshop were to: 1. raise the level of the awareness of different stakeholders on the Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing and; 2. to enhance their engagement in combating IUU fishing, protection of fish spawning aggregations/sites and reduction/avoidance of fishery by-catch in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden region.

Forty-seven participants, affiliated to governmental and no-governmental sectors, attended the workshop.  These sectors included Ministry of Tourism, Fishery Association and Environmental NGOs/Civil Societies.  About third of the participants were females affiliated to governmental and non-governmental sectors. At the end of the workshop, some participants recommended activities to improve management of IUU fishing within the framework of the SFISH Project.
