Concept and Provisional Agenda

The regional project on “Sustainable Fisheries Development in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden-SFISH” is executed by PERSGA with the support of the World Bank. The PDO is to strengthen capacities and regional collaboration in management of marine fisheries and aquaculture in the region to support sustainability objectives, recognizing. that all demersal, crustacean and cephalopod fisheries in all member states are at least at maximum exploitation and some overfished, while the quantity of fish landed in the PERSGA region is poorly known, there is a real challenge to protect marine fisheries for future generations as a major contribution to food security and livelihoods for coastal communities.

The SFISH regional component focuses on promoting the PERSGA regional information system for knowledge sharing and science-based management, strengthen PERSGA platforms for capacity development and coordination, and enhancing awareness for stakeholder engagements in support for developing sound management plan and sustainability.

As part of its strategy, the project organizes a series of regional forums with stakeholders as platforms to discuss priority and emerging issues with national agencies, drive regionally coordinated and joint actions motivated by the project, and support networking and sustainability, building on the project interventions and outputs. This second regional meeting comes in this framework. It will build on the outcomes of the former meeting held in November 2024 to track progress and consider the way forward, capitalizing on momentums created by the project activities and outcomes.
