Sudan’s National Communication Workshop (22-23 October 2023)
PERSGA organized a National Communication Workshop on the SFISH project in collaboration with the National Focal Point (Higher Council for the Environment and Natural Resources (HCENR)), during 22-23 October 2023 in Port Sudan., Sudan. The main objectives of this workshop were to: 1. raise the level of the awareness of different stakeholders on the Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing and; 2. to enhance their engagement in combating IUU fishing, protection of fish spawning aggregations/sites and reduction/avoidance of fishery by-catch in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden region.
Seventy-three participants attended this workshop activities from governmental and no-governmental bodies. The first day of the workshop was targeted for stakeholders from government bodies, while the second day was for non-governmental bodies. At the first day, 51 persons participated from governmental bodies, including Ministries of Fisheries and Transport . At the second day, other 21 persons participated at this workshop from no-governmental bodies, including fishery association , fishermen, civil society organizations, women’s associations and media professionals. Nearly third of the participants were women who attended from governmental and no-governmental bodies at the workshop. At the end of the workshop, participants suggested and recommends some main points to improve management of IUU fishing within the SFISH Project.
